We finished our rather choppy boat ride in Santorini in the wee hours of the morning. We were greeted at the dock by a rather polite but short police man (or possibly a woman it was late) that asked us to “Move please along”. We quickly spotted our transfer and boarded the minibus headed to our cliff side villa. The driver then promptly disappeared, we pursume to try and find more victums, err passengers for his ascent up the side of the cliff.
The driver quickly returned empty handed and annouced that we were off to Oia (after waiting for me to pronouce it so that he was able to wrong pronouce it all the way back to the villas.
We were ment to be escorted by the son of the owner of the villas however it appeared that this was not the case unless the son was about 50ish. Arriving in the dead of night after about a 30 minute minibus ride up a darkened windy cliff face we were dropped off in a quite but not empty parking lot where the son finally appeared. He grabbed our bags introduced himself and asked us to follow him. We were taken down a few windy streets that we would come to know quite well to the stairs down to our cliff side dwelling. At this point my urge to club Jill over the head an accounce “Me Man, Cliff home go!” was almost overweilming however I fought it down once I saw the descent ahead of us. There was in total 42 stairs between the pedestrian walk way and our villa. The son (whose name I have sadly forgotten) took one look at the bags then decided that his shoulder was the best place for our now close to 70 pound bag.
Up it went onto his shoulder and off he went at a run down the side of the cliff with our bags. This in itself was an impressive feat of strength and dexterity so we quickly followed behind, I lifted my 12ish pound bag onto my shoulder too as this was obviously the fashion and both Jill and I were in close pursuit. SC = Stair count (SC: 42)
After a brief inspection of the villa he left us to explore as it was now close to 3am.
The villa smelt very strongly of lillies as they were adorned all around the dwelling, there was a hot tub, jacuzzi and two bathrooms. A nice shower with the biggest showerhead that I have seen. There was a fridge full of goodies and a nice big pile of fresh fruit.
We considered at this point cracking open the wine and making use of the hot tub however after taking in the breath taking view we decided to retire.
