Day 9 – What do you mean Brazilian two piece?

Today we had arranged for a boat ride around the island stopping at a few places for a swim and stopping for a snorkle. This also included a bbq lunch onboard. We took our climb out early after breakfast (SC: 714) to catch the minivan outside of our now favourite bakery down to the port where we boarded our catamaran that we would sail around Santorini on.

The first stop in for our cat boat was the hot spings. There was two other groups of australians on the meow express as we quickly came to be aware of due to their accent and calling things like a bbq a barbie and talking about shitters (toilets).

At the hotsprings everyone had 30 minutes to dive off the yacht sir purs and swim over to the hot springs to experiencing their glory and swim back. Jill and I both took the opportunity to use our newly aquired 17 Euro sun screen and swim over. To my horror the lady in front of us’s swim suit had disappeared up her behind, when I commented on this to Jill she quickly advised me that this is how it is done in Brazil.

We made our way over to the hotspings and sure enuf the water was mildly warmer but to call it a hotspring is quite a stretch. Never the less it was enjoyable and we had a good swim.

Upon returning to the boat we were hosed off and we now had aquired yellow feet due to the sulfur.

We then continued onto the red beach which was called this due to the large red rocks and the red sand. When we arrived one of the passengers asked if it was the red beach to which the crew member just stared blanky and commented “Yes” then pointed at the giant red rock.

We had a nice swim at the red beach but never went to the beach itself. The water was so clear you could see all the way down (5m visability) and while there wasn’t alot to see it was a good swim. At this point the on board bbq was fired up.

While the guy was trying to light the bbq he also wanted to have a smoke, so instead of using a match to light his cigarette he used the blow torch that he was using to fire the charcoal blocks and he looked surprised when almost the entire smoke was burnt off in one quick second.

We arrived at the white beach where we did an hour of snorkeling followed up an excellent lunch (with the exception of the pork that was VERY dry).

We then had a leisurely sail back to the port where we took the bus back up the hill to home (SC: 756). We ended up going to talk to Rose again for a dinner recommendation after we got cleaned up (SC: 798) which resulted in a 30 minute discussion on how corrupt the Greek government was. After that chat we went to Skala again and ordered some different mains. Jill ended up getting Eggplants stuffed with Feta and Tomato while I had the Santorini fresh fish which was quite difficult as it had alot of bones (It was red snapper like what we had at the sunset fish restaurant).

The day was concluded (SC: 840) with more pastries, this time we tried the baklava and coconut creme pasteries which were quite good however the baklaava was difficult to eat while swimming in the hottub.
